Trips by Activity

  • Cities – Explorations of cities and towns, often prioritizing historic sites, quirky museums, good food, and the pleasure of wandering without a plan.
  • Hiking
    • Day hikesWhether based in a town or moving through a region, many of our trips include, many of our trips include several short and day hikes.
    • Multi-day walks – One of our favorites kinds of vacations is when the only decisions we have to make are what side trips to do and where to stop for a snack. This lets us slow down and get to know an area well. We also love being able to stay in a beautiful spot and see it in changing light – sunset and sunrise.
      • BackpackingWhether a short weekend overnight or a five-day trip, we find a lot of joy and restoration in getting out in wilderness and staying there. See also our backpacking packing list.
      • Hut-to-hut hikes – We have come to love hut-to-hut hikes, especially in shoulder season. This lets us go for much longer than a typical backpacking trip–as much as two weeks–without worrying about food. We also get to start and end every day dry and warm and swap stories and advice with people we meet in various refuges. This section includes primarily hikes to staffed and catered refuges in the Alps (see also our hut-to-hut packing list) as well as uncatered huts, such as in New Zealand which has its own packing list.
